Gahnia Sieberiana
We love grasses here and Gahnia sieberiana is one we really have a thing for.
This is a native tussock grass with long arching leaves and a straight dark flower stem. It’s is also known as Saw Sedge as it has serrated edges that can cut skin, so be careful when planting in high pedestrian areas.
Because this is a native plant, it’s happy in most soils and will tolerate our hot and frosty weather. In fact, it’s a great choice for wide open spaces if you want to save the soil, as well as a barrier or shade for more delicate plants in the border.
Need some quick colour around the pool or drab deck? Pop some saw sedge in a well-watered container and just listen to the soothing rustle as the breeze blows through the stems. Bliss
